Let The Good Times Roll

AUGUST 2023

UPDATED 8/24/2023

We’re approaching the end of August and things are starting to heat up. The annual Ennis Fly Fishing & Outdoor Festival is returning to town this weekend on August 26th & 28th. We’re proud to be sponsoring the music on Saturday night. Dead Sky will be stealing faces from 7:30PM to 10:30PM. Come hangout with the shop crew at Peter T Park once you get off the water. It’s going to be one hell of a night!

The forecast for the weekend is anticipating precipitation with a likely chance of thunderstorms rolling through the valley. The rain that we’ve received over the last few days has helped regulate water temperatures into the mid 60’s and high 50’s. The flows at Cameron have fluctuated over the last 7 days but are now at 1290 CFS. It’s shaping up to be a fishy weekend.

The hopper fishing this last week has been inconsistent at best. Most of the fish that are coming up are smaller in size, however the opportunity to catch a stud gulper is in play. General attractor patterns have been bringing fish to the surface as well. Caddis, tricos, and flying ants have also been effective patterns to run in tandem. Aquatic bug life begins to diminish as we enter the final days of August, be prepared to work for the ones that you can get.
